NOTICE OF PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD EXTENSION

Under the National Environmental Policy Act, on November 10, 2005, the EPA published a notice of availability for the DRAFT Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DRAFT SEIS) (70 FR 68443) (EIS No. 20050460) for the deployment of the U.S. Navy's Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System Low Frequency Active (SURTASS LFA) sonar. The Navy has received numerous requests from both individuals and organizations requesting an extension of the public comment period for the SURTASS LFA Sonar DRAFT SEIS. In order to provide the Public with ample time to respond, the Action Proponent has extended the comment period by 45 days. The new date for the end of the comment period is 10 February 2006.
